Kiambu,Kenya: The Ministry of Health has now given a maize meal whose sale had been temporarily stopped a clean bill of health.
The department of health said the Pendana Fortified flour meal that was pulled out of market late last month on suspicion of high levels of aflatoxin was safe.
Kiambu County Public Health Officer Francis Mwangi said in a letter the flour manufactured by Capwell Industries in Thika was fit for human consumption.
“Following the sampling of all your 22 products, we are glad to inform you that they conform to the standards set by the Government Chemist,” reads the letter.
He said the manufacturer of the floor is now free to sell it.
“It is our hope that the company will endeavor to maintain high standards of hygiene when manufacturing their products in order to safe guard human health,” said Mwangi. Late last month, the Director of Public Health Kepha Obacho banned the sale of the fortified maize meal flour after it was suspected to be contaminated.
