Nairobi, Kenya: The Director of Immigration Jane Waikenda was Thursday rushed to hospital after she collapsed at the Ethic and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) compound where she was being taken for grilling over alleged irregular issuance of work permits to foreigners.

Ms Waikenda had been picked up from her office at Nyayo House at about 10am and was being taken to Integrity building for questioning when she collapsed.

EACC spokesman Yasin Amaro said she collapsed as she was being taken into their offices after her arrest.

The official said there had been many complaints over the manner in which the permits were being issued before they launched the probe.

“She fainted as our officers led her to our offices for questioning. There were many issues that we wanted to be clarified by her in regard to issuance of work permits to foreigners,” said Amaro.

She was admitted at the Nairobi Hospital where officials say the EACC detectives will wait for her to recuperate before they question her.

Since she took over the office last year, there have been major changes on operations there. She came into office with a slogan of fast delivery of services.

But since then, hundreds of foreigners have been complaining that their permits were being cancelled by immigration officials and issued to others.
