Nairobi, Kenya: Kenchic Limited’s breed of chicken known as ‘Kenbro’ continues to gain popularity in the local and regional markets.

The company produces over 20,000 birds a week and exports about 5,000 day-old chicks each month regionally with a growing number of farmers in Kenya opting for this variety for meat production.

Kenbro chickens are dual-purpose birds meaning they can be reared for both meat (broilers) and eggs (layers).

According to Regional Sales and Technical Manager Moses Owino, this breed of chicken is highly profitable because of short growth to maturity and accelerated weight increase.

“Kenbro chickens fulfill a market requirement for a bird that is less intensively grown and has great taste qualities and in high demand by the consumer,” he said.
