South African government has condemned a photo posed on the internet apparently of the body of iconic former South Africa President Nelson Mandela.
Social media was buzzing with people condeming a photo which was purported to be that of Nelson Mandela lying in state. The South African government had banned taking of photos of Mandela's body while lying in the coffin, hence there was no way such a photo would be available on social media.
According to Metro, spokeswoman Phumla Williams said the photo was posted online by a South African woman but has since been deleted from her Twitter timeline.
It was later discovered that the said photo had been taken by AFP more than 20 years ago during a meeting and had been manipulated to look like that of Nelson Mandela's body.
The South African government said it found the posting ‘extremely distasteful’ and urged people not to view the content.
