Nairobi, Kenya: Even as details of post-election deals signed between Jubilee Government and other parties remain scanty, Amani coalition has maintained that their agreement did not include positions in Cabinet and other arms of Government.

United Democratic Forum (UDF), an affiliate of the Amani coalition, reiterated that their pact was not based on sharing of Government slots.

Party secretary general Dan Ameyo who signed the deal explained that they had agreed to cooperate where their policies converge.

“We concurred to support each other on general policies of the executive and in the event we fail to agree, we shall also criticise the Government,” he stated. Ameyo said the pact was based on the manifestos of the two coalition partners.

“We are not expecting to be considered for positions in the Jubilee Government as it was not part of the deal,” he said on phone.

Signed agreement

He, however, declined to disclose details of the signed agreement, arguing that it was not proper to do so.

UDF was among the nine parties that had signed a post-poll deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta. Uhuru and Deputy President William Ruto are said to have agreed that one of the remaining two Cabinet positions should go to Western Kenya, which has so far received only one slot.

Environment, Water and Natural Resources Cabinet nominee Judy Wakhungu hails from Sirisia, Bungoma County.

Inside sources have hinted that former Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, who was the Amani presidential candidate, might make a comeback to Government.

If Mudavadi is named in the remaining Cabinet slots, he would become the third poll loser to join Uhuru’s Government.
