LODWAR,KENYA: Kanu National Chairman Gideon Moi has dismissed TNA-URP alliance as tribal and meant to serve selfish interests.
Gideon, who was speaking during a public rally in Lodwar, said the alliance led by Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto has nothing to offer Kenyans.
He said Kanu, which stands for the unity of all Kenyans, would not allow the country to be polarised along ethnic lines.
“Kanu is mindful of the interest of all Kenyans and we shall not allow any party to divide the country along ethnic lines,” said Gideon.
Uhuru and Ruto are in the process of finalising a pre-election pact that may see Uhuru run for presidency with Ruto as his running mate.
Make announcement
Gideon also said Kanu will not field a candidate for the presidency, saying it will work with other parties to reach a pre-election coalition.
“Kanu will soon announce the party that it will form a pre-election coalition with ahead of next year’s General Election,” said the Kanu chairman.
He, however, maintained that Kanu would field candidates for the other elective seats. He said Kanu has re-branded itself and has youthful leaders who are going to spearhead the development agenda.
He said Kanu would in the coming weeks embark on aggressive campaigns to woo back former party members who decamped to other parties.
The party chairman promised that the Kanu coalition would support free education in primary and secondary schools.
He also urged area residents to register as voters for them to participate in the next elections.
In an apparent reference to the disarmament exercise that was to take place in Turkana and Samburu counties, Gideon said the Government should ensure that voters are not displaced.
