Fire gutted down two dormitories at Bunyore Girls High School in Vihiga County leaving over two hundred students stranded and property of unknown value destroyed.

The inferno brought down two dormitories in two separate incidences causing fear and panic among the students.

However, no one was injured as the incident happened at night when student were in classrooms.

In the first occurrence that happened on Friday at 10 am, the schools’ administration was alerted of a fire outbreak in one of the oldest dormitories at the institution.

The second one took place Saturday, astonishing the school authorities as students rushed to the scene to try and salvage their properties.

The school’s principal Rose Shitsama declined to divulge details concerning the incident when press visited the school.

“Please give us time to access the damage and establish the cause of the fire, then we can give you details later,” she said.

Shitsama continued, “I want to assure parents that their children are safe and there is no reason to panic.”

Officers from Luanda station led by Officer Commanding Police Station (OCS) Benjohn Munuve visited the school and have launched investigations into the two incidences.

“In the first fire, we suspect it might have been caused by an electric fault but the second one, there are indications that it can be an arson attack,” said the OCS.

The affected students are now sharing beds with their colleagues in other dormitories.

During the fire outbreak in the first instance, efforts by students with the help villagers to put off the fire were fruitless as it spread first consuming all their personal effects.
