The moment one sets foot into Malindi Breeze Point Hotel a few metres from the Mombasa-Malindi highway, the most striking feature is the African authenticity that exists within.

From the floors to the beds, the tinge gives an indigenous touch, which exudes the feeling of being at home-away from home.

The makuti roofs come in handy to cool off guests from the heat of the coastal region. For those looking for a perfect honeymoon or just a simple family get away, the place to be is Breeze Point as the locals here refer to it.

At the reception, the dark volcanic rocks that tile the floor that introduce a feeling of calmness welcomes you. The murals lining the walls are pure African art, rich with African culture — from animals, to trees and paintings of people. The statue of a woman at the reception desk speaks it all — we are proud of who we are.

The swimming pool provides relaxation for water lovers and the children’s pool will keep your children entertained if you decide to tug them along.

And for the beach experience, guests are driven to the beach for a swim or walk, if they feel the swimming pool is not enough for recreation.

There is free wireless connection, hence no sweat with cables or hotspots.

For honeymooners, the best go would be the one bedroom flat as it has a satellite TV, a bathroom, lounge, kitchenette and a balcony. All these ensuring the couple enjoys privacy.

The gym offers those who love working out an opportunity to engage in their routine workout. The hotel also provides games such as table tennis; mini-golf, which is played on the top most floor, a pool table and a playground for children.

The guests influence the choice of music but, most of the time, it is the slow coy stuff that glues hearts together. This wafts throughout the day and night from the woofers placed near the lounge.

There are two public lounges — one on the first floor overlooking the swimming pool, and the other on the ground floor where most guests prefer to have their meals served.

Meals are available on order; there are mainland dishes and seafoods plus a host of drinks ranging from fresh fruit punch to alcoholic beverages, which offer guests an array of options to choose from.

Some guests, however, choose to have their meals by the swimming pool as they enjoy the glare of the sky and while away their time with the breeze.
