Kenya Hockey Union league has gathered momentum as the contest passed the halfway mark at the weekend.
Nairobi Simba Union roared its way to the top of the men’s premiership league, thanks to a 10-3 thrashing of Western Jaguars in a match that recorded the highest number of goals.

Unbeaten Simba now top the 11-team league with 15 points from seven matches. Police, who have played the same number of matches, dropped to second with a point less than Simba.
Clawless jaguars
After suffering the defeat to Simba, the clawless Jaguars failed to recover as they lost their second match, going down 4-2 to Mvita XI.
The result was a face-saving mission for Mvita XI, who had lost 3-1 against Kenya College of Accountancy-University (KCA-U) in their previous match. KCA-U’s victory earned the students three valuable points that saw them move from fifth to fourth in the premiership standings.
The league standings have Simba at the top with 15 points, followed by Police (14),Strathmore (13), KCA-U (11), Green Sharks (10), Mvita XI (10), Wazalendo (7) and Jaguars (4).
Former champions Kisumu Simba and Parkroad, with three points each, and United States International University-Africa (2) occupy the last three positions.
National league leaders Karate Axiom beat Kimathi University 3-1 in a men’s match, to maintain their unbeaten record and consolidate their position at the top of the table. Karate, who were demoted to the second tier league last season, have 17 points after seven matches.
Mombasa Institute are second on 11 points, followed by Kimathi and Mombasa Sports Club, who have seven points apiece.
Confident Vikings took champions Telkom Orange head-on for a barren draw in the national women’s league encounter.
This was the only match of the seven-team league. United States International University-Africa are second on 13 points, followed by Strathmore (7), Sliders and Blue Eaglets (6) and Mombasa (1).
