The 2010 Kenya National Autocross Championship starts at Jamhuri Park racetrack on Sunday.
As the new season gets underway, drivers will strive to shake off the rust after a long off-season and, more important, make a good start to a competitive series.
The event will also incorporate three rally cars to spice up the occasion.
Defending champion, Steve Anthony, will not be relenting on his high-octane racing style he showed on his 1300cc Starlet powered turbo engine.
Anthony believes he can repeat his 2009 performance only if he is in a position to vanquish Duncan.
Also expected to take part is teenage driver, Ken Anunda, who is eager to race ahead with the champions.
The winner of the most improved Autocross driver trophy, Arthur Kinyanjui, is also expected back in the series to up his ante in the anticipated Kenya National Rally Championship debut.
"The handling of the buggy feels nice, so we can look forwards to a good event," said Anunda.
Also expected to take part in the season-opening Kenya Motor Sports Club (KMSC)-organised round is Sukhi Parma, Jeremy Andrade, Salim Walimohammed, Dennis Walimohammed and veteran co-driver Keith Henrie. Henrie has been trim on his lines since making his debut last year and winning one of the rounds last season.
But nothing was exciting and flat-out as the rivalry between Duncan and Anthony.
The event’s starter will be former rally ace, Dave Anunda who also doubles up as the scrutineer.
Rally driver Baldev Chager has indicated that he intends to race the autocross and cross-country seasons this year. Chager is expected to share his buggy with Anish Chouhan.
