Ivan Guya rode a KTM 85cc bike to victory during the second round of the Kenya National Motocross Championship at Jamhuri Park racetrack.

Guya, the reigning MX65 champion, registered his first win of the season to dislodge Davide Bernardi from the top of MX 65 when the latter arrived late at the venue and forfeited the first heat’s points.

Victory in all the three heats at stake with a flawless score of 60 points saw Guya jump to the top of the series with 114 points against Davide’s 91. However, Davide managed to take second overall in the preceding two heats but could only manage fifth overall on the leaderboard.

Sweet revenge

It was sweet revenge for Guya who avenged the first round defeat when he lost out after giving Davide all he could handle.

"I have really practised to perfect my cornering and was trim on jumps. I am happy that I have now come to terms with the new bike," said Guya.

Cruze Muigai riding a Yamaha 250 four-stroke maintained his lead at MX2 class (formerly 125cc) when he beat his cousin Tutu Maina (KTM) to second overall place.

Shivam Vinayak also maintained his dogged campaign in search of the MX1 (formerly Open Class) diadem on his debut year. Vinayak won the MX 1 hands down and admitted the level of competition in the class had degenerated in the absence of defending champion Tom Porter. "It was a tough one though in the first heat but I managed to keep my opponents at bay," Shivam noted.

Ian Duncan who was second overall in the opening round last month was the notable absentee in the MX1 category.

Murigu Njiiri maintained his winning ways in the MX 50 class after beating Owain Ashley and Ryan Bailey to third and fourth places.

The third round is set for April 26. The championship will be preceded by the AMU East Africa Championship at Entebbe’s Garuga Raceway in Uganda.
