UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon wants the world to learn from the holocaust that saw millions of Jews killed.
Mr Ban said world leaders must combat holocaust denial and speak out against "bigotry and hatred."
"We must uphold the standards and laws that the United Nations has put in place to protect people and fight impunity for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity," he said.
The UN chief said this in a speech read on his behalf by Unep Deputy Executive Director Angela Cropper, in Gigiri, yesterday.
He said the world continues to be plagued by violence, disregard of human rights and targeting people for who they are.
German Ambassador to Kenya, Mr Walter Lindner urged world leaders to tread cautiously to avoid similar events that would trigger a holocaust in the future.
Never again
"We have to condemn brutality and make sure it (holocaust) will never happen again," he said.
"Let us remember the victims of the holocaust by reaffirming our faith in the dignity and equal rights of all human beings," said the UN chief.
The UN designated January 27 as the day to remember victims of the holocaust.
