As the National Secondary School games commence on Tuesday, Mang'u and Thika High Schools are ready to have their presence felt in their quest to qualify for the East Africa games in Rwanda in August.
The games begin at Hills School, Eldoret on Tuesday and will run for five days.
Mang'u have entered three teams in boys' rugby 15s and hockey and a composite team of swimmers while Thika have a boys' basketball team.
Mang'u rugby 15s head coach Dennis Munene said his boys have gained enough fitness levels that should see them get to the knockout stages and from there, they'll take a match at a time.
"Our plan is to get to the knockout stages in rugby and from here we take a match at a time with our eyes set on the gold medal. We'll not underrate any of our opponents from the first to the last match," Munene told Standard Sports.
Mang'u are in Group A with Ofafa Jericho of Nairobi, All Saints, Embu of Eastern and St Patrick's Iten of Rift Valley.
"There's no opposition in this group and reaching the knockout stages is our chance to lose and therefore our eyes are on the ball," he said.
Mang'u hockey head coach Kevin Mwangi reiterated his seriousness to get to the knockout stages after the round robin matches.
"It's after that (getting to the knockouts stages) is when we can get the right focus on the next bearing of the tournament," said Mwangi.
Mang'u are in Group B with Kapsabet Boys of Rift Valley, St Charles Lwanga of Coast and Musingu of Western.
Mwangi thanked the school principal JM Kuria who advised the kids to believe in themselves if they wanted to reach the respectable stages.
Thika High School basketball head coach Charles Ogamba said they are more focused on the regional championships having played several friendly matches to shape the playing unit.
In their last match, Thika lost 85-45 against Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture Technology (JKUAT).
