Former Harambee Stars coach Jacob “Ghost” Mulee has jokingly suggested that Kenya may have lost a football star in comedian and content creator David Oyando, popularly known as Mulamwah.
Mulee, who was speaking about Mulamwah’s football skills, wondered why the comedian never pursued the sport professionally.
“Where was he when he was young?” Mulee asked before declaring Mulamwah “a talent we have lost in Kenyan football.”
The former national team coach went a step further, joking that Mulamwah “should have been in the national team”, referring to Harambee Stars.
The remarks have sparked amusement on social media, with fans reacting to the unlikely suggestion that the comedian could have had a career in professional football.
Mulee was impressed by Mulamwah’s football skills after watching him take part in the Manchester United versus Arsenal fans’ derby at Nyayo National Stadium.
The match united supporters of the two English Premier League giants in a football-themed showdown.
In Mulee’s Instagram posts, several pictures show him firmly shaking hands with Mulamwah who was still in his full football attire of Manchester United, as they exchange their pleasantries.
Mulamwah, a comedian, actor and content creator, is also a trained nurse and has built a successful career in entertainment through comedy skits, television appearances and online content.
Away from comedy, he is known for his passion for football and has showcased his skills during various matches and events.
Mulee is one of Kenya’s most recognisable football coaches and has had several stints in charge of Harambee Stars. His praise of Mulamwah’s ability has therefore added an unexpected twist to the comedian’s sporting credentials.
Mulee’s comments also come at a time when conversations around untapped sporting talent in Kenya continue to grow, with many gifted young people pursuing other careers because of limited opportunities to compete at the highest level.
