The race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup title is down to four teams after Morocco, Switzerland, Belgium and Norway were eliminated in the quarter-finals, leaving France, Spain, England and Argentina as the remaining contenders.
According to the BBC, the semi-finals will, for the first time in World Cup history, feature the four highest-ranked men's national teams in the FIFA rankings: France (1), Argentina (2), Spain (3) and England (4).
England secured their place in the last four with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Norway at Miami Stadium. Jude Bellingham starred once again, scoring twice to overturn Norway's early lead and take his tally to six goals in six World Cup matches.
The match was not without controversy.
England's equaliser sparked debate over whether the ball had struck a sky camera cable before the goal.
FIFA later said no contact had been registered.
Norway also had a goal ruled out at 1-1, while England saw a penalty decision overturned after a VAR review.
Although Norway's campaign ended in the quarter-finals, Erling Haaland finished the tournament as one of its standout performers.
The striker was instrumental in Norway's historic run to the last eight, contributing most of his country's goals, including key performances that helped eliminate Brazil in the Round of 16.
England kept Haaland off the scoresheet in the quarter-final, but his overall impact remained significant throughout the tournament.
Switzerland's impressive World Cup run also came to an end after a 3-1 defeat to Argentina at Kansas City Stadium.
The Swiss advanced from the group stage before defeating Algeria in the Round of 32 and overcoming Colombia on penalties in the Round of 16.
Their disciplined defending and resilience carried them to one of the country's best World Cup campaigns before Argentina ended their hopes of reaching the semi-finals.
Earlier in the quarter-finals, France beat Morocco 2-0 at Boston Stadium to end the North Africans' memorable campaign, while Spain edged Belgium 2-1 at Los Angeles Stadium.
Both Morocco and Belgium impressed during the tournament but fell just short of reaching the final four.
The semi-final lineup is now confirmed. France will face Spain at Dallas Stadium (AT&T Stadium) in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday, July 14, with kick-off set for 10 pm East Africa Time.
England will then take on Argentina at Atlanta Stadium (Mercedes-Benz Stadium) in Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday, July 15, also kicking off at 10 pm EAT.
