Kenyan skating champion Kevin Kiarie Ruhiu has joined the race for the Roysambu parliamentary seat, promising to champion the interests of young people and athletes if elected in the 2027 General Election.
Kiarie announced on Monday, October 12, that he would contest the seat on a Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ticket, setting his sights on the August 10, 2027, polls.
In his declaration, the skater said he wanted to address challenges facing residents of the Nairobi constituency, citing opportunities in business, education, infrastructure and healthcare that he believes remain untapped.
He also pledged to advocate for young people and fellow athletes, saying their ambitions should not be undermined by systemic challenges.
“I will defend young people and fellow athletes and protect their dreams from broken systems. If elected, I will serve and deliver for Roysambu residents,” he said.
Kiarie added that he intended to represent residents without discrimination, saying he had received support from Kenyans across the country.
Today i would like to reaffirm the promise I made to the people of Roysambu Constituency. I promised to offer myself to serve, that commitment still stands strong and unshaken. Roysambu is a cosmopolitan, with immense potential in Business, Education, Infrastructure and proper Healthcare yet undiscovered. There are plenty of opportunities for our youths here in Kenya more than anywhere else in the world and I shall stand to defend my fellow athletes without fear and above all when elected as Roysambu Constituency MP on August 10, 2027, I Shall Serve, I Shall Deliver, I will protect the dreams of our hardworking youths and my fellow constituents from being shattered by broken systems. I will give Roysambu a voice we haven't had for so long. I have been supported by Kenyans from every corner of this country and when elected, I will serve all without discrimination. God Bless You All! WANTAM!

“I will give Roysambu a voice we have not had for so long. I have received support from Kenyans across the country, and when elected, I will serve everyone without discrimination,” he said.
His entry into the race comes amid a growing list of aspirants seeking to represent Roysambu in the National Assembly.
The contenders include incumbent MP Augustine Kamande Kamau of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), former MP Isaac Waihenya Ndirangu of DCP and nominated MP Sabina Chege of the Jubilee Party.
Other aspirants include independent candidate Moses Mwenda and Dr Faith Mwaura, who is seeking the seat on a UDA ticket. TikTok personality Raymond Omosa, popularly known as Kenyan Prince, has also expressed interest in the race.
Kiarie’s political declaration follows months of public disagreements with the Ministry of Sports over support for his international skating competitions.
The athlete has accused the ministry of failing to release funds and provide adequate assistance for his participation in international events. The ministry, however, has maintained that it supported his sporting endeavours.
The dispute intensified after Kiarie missed the 2026 World Skate Games in Paraguay, alleging that a lack of visa assistance prevented him from competing.
Kiarie has gained national attention through his international performances, including medal-winning appearances at skating competitions in Benin and Egypt.
His entry into elective politics now places him among the candidates seeking to represent Roysambu in the next Parliament.
