Milka Nyambura was questioning a nominee for the Youth Affairs, Sports and Innovation portfolio during a session involving Patrick Ndung'u Kabugi, Hon. Milka repeatedly asked a question regarding the definition of a chief officer leading to an awkward exchange over phrasing and pronunciation
The session, which was captured on video, attracted attention after Nyambura appeared to struggle to construct clear sentences while seeking answers from the nominee.
In the clip, Nyambura is heard addressing the nominee as she attempts to frame her questions in English, with her delivery drawing reactions from other social media users.
The incident quickly became a talking point on X, where users expressed mixed opinions about her performance and the expectations placed on elected and nominated leaders.
Political commentator Omwamba wrote “Hilarious video of a Member of the County Assembly of Nyandarua struggling to question an official of the county government in English during county assembly proceedings.”
Another X user, Mr Njagi, criticised Nyambura's performance, “There Goes Milka nyambura a nominated MCA in Nyandarua county assembly who cannot even construct a simple three words question to a chief officer. It is very unfortunate.”
The reactions have reignited debate about communication skills among public officials and whether proficiency in English should be a measure of competence in leadership.
The episode has drawn attention to the scrutiny county assembly members face while carrying out their oversight responsibilities, particularly during vetting sessions that help determine who takes up key county government positions.
However, a representative's ability to communicate effectively should be assessed alongside their grasp of the issues, the substance of their questions and their commitment to representing constituents.
