A bizarre scene unfolded in Nakuru during an empowerment event after Nakuru West MP Samwel Arama tossed loaves of bread into a crowd, sending members of the public scrambling to catch them.
In a video circulating online, the MP is seen throwing loaves of bread into a surging crowd, with dozens of hands raised as people jostle to catch the food.
Amid the commotion, some members of the crowd can be heard chanting, “Baba yetu,” as they scramble for the loaves.
Arama was launching an empowerment feeding programme aimed at providing food supplies to residents.

The manner in which the bread was handed out has sparked debate online.
The footage particularly drew attention to residents competing to catch the loaves as they were thrown from the front of the gathering.
Several netizens criticised the event, accusing the MP of distributing food in a manner they described as humiliating and disrespectful to both young and elderly residents.
@KubaiK30718 wrote: “This is lack of respect to the residents, even dogs are nowadays fed with respect.”
Another user, @comogolla, wrote: “This is Samwel Arama, the Nakuru West MP, supposedly ‘empowering’ his constituents by throwing bread and tea scones at them. The constituents are then expected to scramble for the food, while those who aren’t lucky enough are left to scavenge for whatever falls to the ground.”
However, some users directed blame at the residents, questioning why they accepted the manner in which the bread was distributed.
@MinWandera wrote: “Nakuru West town residents, shame on you. How angry are you to be treated like animals? Is this what we are banking on Reform Kenya for on the ballot?”
The debate has since raised questions about the already heated campaign season ahead of the 2027 elections.
