Questions after Sen Allan Chesang shares conflicting life story

Questions have emerged over the credibility of Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang, after he appeared to give a contrasting account of his early life.

In a recent interview with Chris Da Bass, Chesang painted a picture of hardship, claiming he arrived in Nairobi with nothing and was forced to sleep on the streets along River Road, describing his struggle to survive in the capital.

‘’Nikikuja Nairobi sikua na mtu ningesema niko na brotherngu mkubwa or beshte yangu anaeza nishika mkono, nililearn the hard way, nilalala hio River Road sana mpaka kwa streets, kuna mkamba mwingine alikua amenieka mahali na lala hapo.’’

He added that after eventually finding success, he tracked down the man who once helped him and bought him a piece of land in appreciation.

However, netizens quickly unearthed a five-year-old interview on Bonga na Jalas, hosted by Jalang’o, in which the senator shared a markedly different narrative.

In that earlier appearance, Chesang claimed that while still in Form One, he was already earning close to Sh1 million as a junior table tennis champion. He further stated that he later made up to Sh2 million per weekend playing in France and even worked as a teenage sharebroker.

The stark contrast between the two accounts has raised questions about which version reflects the truth.

Online users have since put the senator on the spot over the inconsistencies.

One X user, Ja Loka, wrote: “Politicians randomly come up with something that fits an occasion and embellish it so well, then make a presentation to a delusional audience. And the stories keep changing.”

Another, Mkenya Halisi, questioned the street-life claims.

‘’Buana Chesang namjua from Moi, the guy used to Spain kucheza sport fulani hapo. He was even signed huko. Unless kama kulimuharibikia time fulani. Very smart upward, lakini hii ya kulala kwa street inakaa jaba,’’ he recounted.
