Popular Nairobi matatu “Baba Yaga”, also known as “John Wick”, has reportedly been involved in another road accident.
The crash happened at night on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, along the Ongata Rongai route in Nairobi.
Photos from the scene showed the brightly decorated matatu lying on its side in a ditch, with its wheels off the ground.
The vehicle’s custom paintwork, inspired by the John Wick movie, was clearly visible on the exposed side.
The rear bumper, taillights and body panels also appeared to have been damaged in the crash.
A local source said some passengers were injured, although the injuries were reportedly minor.
The latest incident comes about five months after Baba Yaga was involved in another road crash in April 2026.
In that incident, the matatu collided with a small black taxi. Video footage from the scene showed the bus on the wrong side of the road before it was moved back onto the carriageway.
The front driver’s side was damaged, including the bumper and grille.
Following the April crash, the team behind the Raptor Family Instagram page, which shares updates about the matatu, urged fans not to “hate” on the vehicle and said it would return to the road.
The team described the crash as a common road hazard, writing, “ajali haina kinga”.
The latest accident has sparked mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans focusing on Baba Yaga’s striking design and luxury features, while others have raised concerns over its repeated involvement in crashes.
Baba Yaga has become one of the more recognisable matatus in Nairobi’s highly customised matatu culture.
It is rumoured to be one among a fleet belonging to George Ruto, President William Ruto’s son.
