Kenya Power (KPLC) has announced planned electricity outages in four counties on Friday, September 11, 2026, as engineers carry out routine maintenance and system upgrades.

The interruptions will last up to nine hours in some areas, with most schedules running between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

The four primary counties under the Friday maintenance plan are Nairobi, Migori, Nyeri, and Kitui.

Migori County: Masaba and parts of Kehancha will experience a longer outage from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Affected locations include Masaba, Nyanchabo, Migori Airstrip, KEFRI, Kombe, Korubunyige, Nyamagagana, Narolong, Kehancha Primary School, Goikonge, and nearby customers.

Nyeri County: Mutathini and Lilongwe areas will lose supply between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The list covers Mutathini Market, Lilongwe, Mutathini Booster, Mutathini PCEA, Karibaini, and adjacent customers.

Kitui County: Mbondoni and Kavaini zones will be affected from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Specific places include Mbondoni, Kiomo, Kioo, Maiyuni, Kavaini, Mbakini, Kwa Muthusi, Yenzuva, Kavaloi, Kanyaa, Kalimbui, Nguutani, Kakululo, Syongoni, and surrounding customers.

Some reports also note that smaller pockets in Kiambu, Machakos, and Makueni may feel localized effects, though the main notice focuses on the four counties above.

Kenya Power says the work is needed to keep the network safe and reliable. During the outage window, residents and businesses are advised to switch off sensitive appliances such as fridges, televisions, and computers to avoid damage when power returns.

People are also encouraged to plan ahead for daytime darkness, especially where water pumps, schools, and markets rely on electricity.

The utility usually restores supply as soon as the work is done, but times may shift slightly depending on progress on the ground.
