The incident, captured in a busy part of the city, has sparked fresh concerns over the growing boldness of street criminals and the safety of Nairobi residents even in areas filled with people and traffic.
The video has since spread rapidly across social media, prompting anger and frustration among Kenyans, with many questioning how such an attack could unfold in a busy area without immediate intervention.
Some called for increased police patrols, improved surveillance and faster emergency responses in areas frequented by pedestrians and motorists.
One X user, Naughty, wrote: “This has gone beyond politics, this is a crisis. How many more Nairobian[s] must suffer before action is taken?”
Another user, JaHomaBay, blamed the government for what they described as worsening insecurity in the capital.
“Nairobi has become worse under Kenya Kwanza Government. Goon and gangs are terrorising residents everywhere. This is not a city, it’s Haiti,” the user wrote.
The user went on to call for the deployment of the military to Nairobi, although such views remain those of individual social media users and do not constitute official policy.
It remains unclear whether the two men seen in the footage have been identified or arrested
