President William Ruto is set to unveil new uniforms for General Duty Police Officers on Friday, August 28, as the National Police Service prepares to introduce a new look for officers.
The new uniforms will be unveiled during a passing-out parade at the Kenya Police Training College in Kiganjo, Nyeri County, where more than 6,000 police constables are expected to graduate after completing their training.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed the planned unveiling on Tuesday, August 25, saying President Ruto will preside over the ceremony and officially introduce the new attire.
Kanja said the change follows concerns raised by police officers during a public participation exercise on the current navy-blue uniforms. The officers reportedly rejected the existing design, prompting the National Police Service to consider alternatives.
“The President will unveil the new uniforms on Friday during the passing-out parade at Kiganjo,” Kanja said.
The review is part of broader efforts by the National Police Service to improve the appearance and working conditions of officers. Police uniforms also play a role in identification, visibility, professionalism and public perception.
The unveiling will coincide with the graduation of thousands of newly trained constables, marking their formal entry into the National Police Service.
The recruits have undergone training in areas including law enforcement, discipline, physical fitness and other policing skills required for deployment.
The Kiganjo ceremony is expected to bring together senior government officials, security chiefs, families of the graduating officers and other invited guests.
The introduction of the new uniforms is likely to attract public attention, particularly following the debate surrounding the current navy-blue design.
