A businessman operating multiple lodgings in the Imara Daima area has been accused of leading a group of accomplices in breaking into a church, vandalizing property, and stealing items valued at Sh2.871 million.

Kefa Onkoba Getate is alleged to have, on May 16, 2026, at Imara Daima in Embakasi South Sub-County, Nairobi County, jointly with others not before the court, broken into and entered Jesus Creation Church.

The group is accused of stealing assorted Yamaha pianos, a Lead active guitar (Ibanez)  and four par can stage lights.

Additional items reportedly stolen include an MG300 guitar pedal, a lead guitar, a four-channel microphone mixer, a 1500W fog smoke machine, and a digital mixer.

The accused and his accomplices are also said to have carted away a digital wall clock, a bass guitar combo, a five-string guitar, two 65-inch LG UHD TVs, an 85-inch smart TV, three audio amplifiers, additional stage lights, and a Canon camera, all valued at a total of Sh2,871,000.

On the day of the incident, the accused was allegedly spotted by a security guard breaking into the church by destroying an iron sheet barrier that separates the church compound from his lodging premises. He was reportedly accompanied by about 15 other individuals who damaged church property and carried away the stolen items in gunny bags.

The church bishop was promptly notified and alerted police officers as well as other church members, who rushed to the scene. This forced the accused and his accomplices to flee.

Getate, who is well known in the area, was the first to be arrested. He has denied the charges. The court granted him a cash bail of Sh200,000 with a similar surety bond. The matter is scheduled for hearing in September
