Tanzania is set to host the 74th edition of the Miss World pageant in May 2027, marking a historic milestone for both the country and the wider East African region.
The announcement positions Tanzania as only the second African nation after South Africa to stage the prestigious global competition, which has been running since 1951.
According to official confirmations from the Miss World Organisation and Tanzanian government officials, the event will bring together contestants from more than 130 countries, with projections estimating over 20,000 international visitors during the month-long programme.
The global television audience is expected to surpass two billion viewers, offering Tanzania unprecedented international visibility.
The announcement was made following a formal agreement signed in Dar es Salaam, witnessed by Tanzania’s Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda.
He described the development as a defining moment for the country’s cultural and tourism sectors.
“This is more than a beauty pageant. It is a strategic platform to showcase Tanzania’s tourism, culture, investment opportunities, and creative industries to the world,” Makonda said during the signing ceremony.
The Miss World Organisation also highlighted Tanzania’s growing reputation as a destination for international events, noting that the country will be the first in East and Central Africa to host the pageant.
“Known for its breathtaking wildlife, the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, the endless plains of the Serengeti National Park, the turquoise magic of Zanzibar, and the warmth of its people, this extraordinary East African nation is ready to welcome 130 nations for one of the world’s most celebrated international events,” they said.
“A festival where beauty meets purpose, cultures connect, and the world comes together in friendship, inspiration, and unforgettable celebration. The journey to Tanzania begins now,” they added.
Founded in the United Kingdom, Miss World is one of the longest-running international beauty pageants.
It is widely recognised not only for beauty and stage presentation but also for its “Beauty with a Purpose” initiative, which focuses on charity work, social impact, and community development projects undertaken by contestants.
