The Ministry of Environment will support county governments in setting up waste recycling plants.

Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya said the impact of Climate Change has made waste management a critical concern in growing urban centres.

"We shall support initiatives that are creating employment to our people as they make our environments clean. We are delighted that some counties, like Kajiado, had started modern waste recycling plants that will be used as a benchmark by other counties," said Tuya.

The CS was speaking when she led representatives of the Norwegian and Swedish royal families on a tour of the Kitengela dumpsite where a recycling plant has been set up.

Crown Prince Haankon of Norway and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden visited the dumpsite to witness how Taka Ni Mali hub processes waste into products.

The hub collects 60 tonnes of waste and processes 95 per cent of it. It was started by First Lady Edna Lenku and has been supported by several donors.
