Comedian Nasra Yusuf has announced her bid for the Garissa County Women Representative seat in the 2027 General Election, joining a growing list of Kenyan entertainers seeking elective office.

Yusuf announced her political ambitions in an Instagram post on Tuesday, October 20, outlining her priorities for women, young people and families in the northeastern county.

Her campaign poster carries the slogan, “Her Voice. Her Future. Our Garissa,” and lists pledges to promote women's empowerment, improve access to education and skills training, strengthen healthcare services and create employment opportunities.

In the accompanying caption, Yusuf said she wanted leadership that listens to residents and delivers opportunities across the county.

“Garissa deserves leadership that listens, representation that delivers, and opportunities that reach every woman and girl,” she wrote.

She said she envisioned a future in which women were empowered, young people had access to education and meaningful opportunities, and families received better healthcare.

“As I look towards the 2027 Women Representative race in Garissa County, I am committed to listening, learning, and championing the issues that matter to our people,” she added.

Yusuf's announcement comes as several entertainers, musicians and social media personalities signal interest in contesting elective seats ahead of the August 2027 General Election.

Among them is comedian Jasper Muthomi, popularly known as MC Jessy, who announced in February 2026 that he intended to seek a parliamentary seat.

Jessy cited his interest in the creative economy and the need to improve the welfare of content creators as key motivations for his political ambitions.

“I will be in parliament in 2027. I am passionate about the creative industry,” he said in a media interview.

Mugithi musician Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, has also declared his intention to contest the Ol Joro Orok parliamentary seat in Nyandarua County. He said his decision was informed by his experiences growing up in the constituency and his desire to participate directly in decision-making.

Rapper Henry Ohanga, popularly known as Octopizzo, has announced plans to vie for the Kibra parliamentary seat in Nairobi, while comedian and entertainer Sammy Kioko has declared his bid for the Mavoko MP seat in Machakos County.
