US rapper BigXthaPlug remains in the spotlight following his recent arrest in Texas on charges of driving while intoxicated, marijuana possession and illegal possession of a firearm.
The 28-year-old artist, whose real name is Xavier Landum, was taken into custody by the Allen Police Department and booked into the Collin County Jail before being released, according to the BBC.
The legal trouble arrived just as BigXthaPlug prepared to release new music and marked another setback following a previous arrest on similar allegations.
The rapper had been scheduled to perform at the Country Rising festival, but organisers announced on Instagram that he would no longer appear due to a "personal emergency".
Despite the arrest, BigXthaPlug went ahead with a scheduled performance at the Iowa State Fair. Videos shared on social media showed him opening his set by telling the crowd, "They didn't think I was coming."
Born in Dallas, Texas, Landum initially focused his energy on football, playing at the collegiate level before a series of legal troubles led to his incarceration. It was while serving time in prison that he began writing lyrics to pass the time and discovered his passion for hip-hop.
After his release in 2019, he launched his music career with a string of underground singles. He burst onto the mainstream scene with his 2023 debut album Amar and hit tracks like Texas and Mmhmm, building a profile around Southern hip-hop, trap and country rap.
Over the past few years, Landum has expanded his empire by launching his own label, 600 Entertainment, while performing internationally at events like London's Wireless Festival in 2025.
However, his rising success has remained closely shadowed by ongoing legal troubles.
Landum was already out on bail following an August 2025 arrest over allegations of unlawful firearm possession and possession of a small amount of marijuana.
That case remains ongoing, and he also faced similar charges in 2022, according to the BBC.
The rapper had recently been teasing new music on social media ahead of his upcoming album release, which now hangs in the balance following his arrest.
