Kenyan gospel singer Mercy Masika has been ordained as a Reverend, marking a new chapter in her Christian ministry after years of serving audiences through gospel music and worship.
Masika announced the milestone on Instagram, describing her ordination as the result of surrendering to what she believes is God’s calling after years of questioning whether she could carry the responsibilities of ministry.
“Growing up as a Bishop’s kid, I witnessed a life of sacrifice up close and for years, I wrestled with whether I carried that same weight,” Masika said.
The singer said she had doubted her ability to take on the responsibility and feared the personal cost of answering the call.
“I doubted my ability, feared the cost,” she added.
Masika said she eventually chose to embrace the calling, describing her ordination as a deeply humbling experience.
“Today, I step forward because He called, and I finally surrendered. I am deeply humbled to be ordained as a Reverend,” she said.
Masika was ordained alongside her husband, David Muguro, who was also ordained as a Reverend, marking a new chapter in their shared Christian ministry.
In a separate post celebrating the milestone, Masika described the ordination as the work of God, acknowledging the academic qualifications and efforts she and her husband had pursued before reaching the moment.
“This is the doing of the Lord, we have sought many academic qualifications and efforts, and the Lord has been faithful,” she wrote.
Masika has built a successful music career around worship and Christian messages, with her songs earning her a strong following in Kenya and beyond. Her music has established her as one of the country’s prominent gospel singers.
Beyond music, Masika has also used her public platform for humanitarian advocacy.
In 2019, she was appointed United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador for Refugees, a role through which she advocated for refugees and highlighted issues affecting women and children.
