Former Kenya National Union of Teachers secretary general Wilson Sossion has sparked widespread online debate after debuting a noticeably youthful new look during a recent public appearance.
Dressed in a maroon blazer paired with dark blue jeans, the veteran trade unionist turned politician turned heads with his freshly dyed black hair, a striking departure from his signature greying look.
His refreshed appearance quickly became a viral topic on social media platforms after he shared photos on his official Facebook page.
Social media users flooded the comment section with lighthearted commentary.
Some even suggested that the new aesthetic was symbolic of a fresh chapter in his political career as he prepares to transition into public administration.
The sudden makeover coincides with a major turn in his public career after President William Ruto officially nominated him to serve as a member of the Teachers Service Commission.
The executive action was formally communicated through Notification of Presidential Action No. XI of 2026, issued by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.
"The following Presidential nominations have been transmitted to Parliament for consideration and approval in accordance with the Constitution and the relevant statutes," Koskei announced in the official statement.
The nomination forms part of broader executive changes aimed at filling critical vacancies in constitutional commissions and statutory bodies across the country.
Alongside Sossion, President Ruto nominated Antonina Lentoijoni to join the nine-member constitutional commission tasked with registering, recruiting, employing, and disciplining public school teachers across the nation.
If vetted and approved by the National Assembly, Sossion will formally rejoin the helm of Kenya's education sector five years after resigning from his position at the teachers union in 2021.
During his contentious eight-year tenure leading the union from 2013 to 2021, Sossion built a reputation for fiery confrontations with government agencies and the commission itself.
His transition from an outspoken union advocate to a prospective commissioner represents a drastic shift in his trajectory, placing him inside the very institution he frequently challenged.
