Druski's church parody steals the show during BET Awards hosting debut [Courtesy]

Comedian and internet personality Druski made a dramatic entrance during his hosting debut at the 2026 BET Awards in Los Angeles.

In a viral clip seen by TNX Africa, Druski descended from the ceiling on a harness before kicking off the ceremony by reviving one of his most famous online skits.

The performance paid homage to his viral January parody of flashy, money-hungry pastors who exploit their followers.

Following a high-energy, career-spanning opening performance by rapper T.I., Druski took to the stage with a full gospel choir dressed in yellow robes emblazoned with the letter "C" to deliver his opening monologue.

Dressed in an orange Gucci suit, Christian Louboutin red-bottom shoes and layered chains, Druski had the audience in stitches beneath a backdrop reading "Collect and Praise." Rather than delivering a traditional stand-up routine, he transformed the segment into a mock church service that playfully roasted the star-studded audience.

Backed by the choir's vocals, he joked that Latto and Teyana Taylor had been "impregnated with the word of God," poked fun at the fortunes of Tyler Perry and Stevie Wonder by hilariously displaying Wonder's net worth in braille, and called out Ray J over a "pending" $50,000 donation that allegedly bounced due to insufficient funds.

While the live audience embraced the performance, the original sketch sparked controversy within some religious circles when it first went viral earlier this year. Several prominent faith leaders, including Pastor Michael Todd, criticised the parody, arguing that it unfairly targeted genuine ministries.

"It was hilarious. It was funny. The thing I was most taken aback by was how much frustration it created in people. You thought it was some attack on the church? No, it was an attack on focus," Pastor Todd told the Christian Post at the time.

Others, however, praised the skit. Gospel rapper Lecrae said his initial reaction was "not offense, but recognition," adding that while the comedy might upset some viewers, it reflected elements of truth.

Beyond his memorable opening, Druski, born Drew Desbordes, made history as the youngest person to host the BET Awards at the age of 31.

Fans on social media were divided over the megachurch-themed skit, with some praising its humour while others found it disrespectful.
