Popular Kenyan movie commentator DJ Afro is set to make a major move into the digital entertainment industry with the launch of an online movie channel that will allow fans to watch films on demand for just Sh20 per movie.

The celebrated narrator announced that the platform will officially go live on Friday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m., when he will conduct a live test of the service with his followers.

According to DJ Afro, the channel has been designed to give viewers access to both new and classic films from the comfort of their homes.

In a social media announcement, he expressed excitement about the project, describing it as the result of weeks of planning and determination.

“We have succeeded in opening a channel for watching movies, and this channel will be on demand,” DJ Afro said.

“This Friday, we are doing a live test where you can watch the latest and old movies. I want to see how many people can watch.”

To access the films, viewers will be required to purchase a ticket costing Sh20 per movie. The tickets will be distributed before the launch date, with users expected to provide their email addresses during the registration process.

“Each movie costs 20 bob, which is the ticket, and it will be sent before Friday,” he explained.

The move comes after an earlier plan to create a shared movie-viewing platform failed to materialise. However, DJ Afro revealed that he quickly developed an alternative solution that eventually led to the creation of the online channel.

“I promised that within three weeks I would come up with something that would allow all of us to watch movies together. Plan A failed, but Plan B worked, which is the channel, and it's ready. We will do the testing together this Friday at 7:30 p.m. live,” he said.

While he declined to reveal the title of the movie that will be screened during the test run, he teased fans by saying its nickname is “TESENDEES.”

“The ticket is linked to your email address,” DJ Afro added.

The launch is expected to mark a new chapter in DJ Afro’s career as he expands from movie narration into digital content distribution.
