Kenya's political and entertainment worlds collided in a surprising way during the Shoke Shoke festival on March 4th, when Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja challenged rapper Khaligraph Jones to a rap battle.
Sakaja, who was also a former rapper, was praised by Khaligraph during his performance, but the rapper also made it clear that he had better skills than Sakaja while referring to himself as the best rapper in Africa.
However, the crowd wouldn't let the matter rest, and they demanded that Sakaja take to the stage for a freestyle rap. Although he was initially reluctant when emcee Shaffie Weru called him to the stage, Sakaja eventually gave in to the crowd's wishes and challenged Khaligraph to a rap battle.
While Khaligraph walked to the stage, Sakaja held his own with some impressive freestyling, proving that he had not lost his touch as a rapper.
"You know you are being paid and I am not. I have always loved you. I have always loved your music and I always wanted to share a stage with you. Keep up the good work," Sakaja told Khaligraph as they shook hands.
Lang'ata MP Jalang'o also joined them and did a freestyle too.
