Award-winning Kenyan film Nairobi Half Life is now streaming on Netflix weeks after celebrating its tenth anniversary.

The film made its debut on the international streaming platform on October 21 and has gained traction, currently among the top ten movies in the country. For some, Netflix recommended the film in the 'critically acclaimed' section.

In September, Kenyans got the privilege to screen the movie by Mymovies.Africa at ihub, attended by some of the cast and crew members while celebrating the film's tenth anniversary.

The film, directed by David' Tosh' Gitoga, stars Joseph Wairimu as Mwas, the late Olwenya Maina, Nancy Wanjiku alias Shix Kapyenga, Paul Ogola, and Mugambi Nthiga, among others.

Nairobi Half Life is also the latest Kenyan art of work to be shown on Netflix, following other movies, including Subira, Disconnect and Poacher.

The International-acclaimed film, released on October 11 2012, still holds the record for cinema attendance for a Kenyan local film, having opened to packed cinemas in Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa and running for 25 weeks in Kenya.

It was also the first Kenyan film considered by the Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Feature category at the 85th Academy Awards. However, it did not make it to the final shortlist.

Other successes included being nominated for nine awards at the African Movie Academy Awards, winning an audience award from the American Film Institute, and winning a Best Actor award for Jospeh Wairui (Mwas) from the Durban Film Festival.

The film also got an official selection at several international film festivals, has been screened in more than 100 theaters in the US and has had a long run in Kenyan cinemas.
