Githumu Boys High School was established by the African Inland Church in Ruchu, Murang’a County in the 1950s as a primary school.

It was not until 1963 when a class of 35 boys marked the birth of Githumu High School. Three years later, it became a mixed school after 40 girls joined it.

A handful of students - boys and girls- would learn how to read and write in temporary grass-thatched structures dotting the school.

The school would later revert to a boys’ only institution. Today, several decades later, the school has modern facilities accommodating close to 900 boys.

The school is “founded on strong Christian principles that continue to shape its development leading to a remarkable growth in both academic and co-curriculum endeavors”.

The school which is near the Aberdare Ranges has chilly days as part of ‘school uniform’.  It can get very cold.
