A former Kiambu political aspirant was charged with defrauding a church of Sh480, 000.

Gladys Chania Mwangi - who lost the Kiambu Woman Rep seat in the 2017 primaries to Gathoni wa Muchoba - was charged with fraud.

The charges against her were that on September 16, 2017, at Right at Home Rehabilitation Centre in Thika, Kiambu County, she obtained Sh480,000 from East African Sub–Saharan African Safe Promotion Foundation by falsely pretending that she was in a position to organise aid from the African Development Bank.

Her lawyer pleaded with the court to release his client on reasonable bond terms saying that she was not a flight risk.

Chania, the former Kiambu coordinator on the now-defunct The National Alliance (TNA) denied the charges and was released on a bond of Sh100, 000 with a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of the same amount.

The case will be heard on September 24.
