‘Never judge a book by its cover,’ are some of the words President Uhuru Kenyatta’s niece Nana Gecaga used when asked to advice to those struggling with alcoholism.

As one of the guests on Sunday’s Churchill show, Gecaga, the Managing Director of Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) had earlier revealed that she was a recovering alcoholic herself.

To the shock and amusement of many, Gecaga said she would down an entire crate of beer and a bottle of hard liquor a day. ‘’Well it was 24 beers that's a crate a day and a half a bottle or full bottle of liquor,’’ said Gecaga.

Gecaga disclosed that she took the step take it slow at the age of 21 after living in the UK for over a decade. She added that the bold move did not come short of challenges revealing that she lost friends.

’It’s a very vicious circle, we all have challenges, we all have issues that we face, never judge a book by its cover. The one thing I can actually say to them is, tomorrow is another day and try to live or get to that day and never be ashamed or too proud to ask for support. Kenya has a lot of support and use it.” she said.

The mother of three; Udi, Jomo and Uhuru, Gecaga is president Uhuru’s niece. She is Jeni Wambui’s daughter whose mother Grace Wanjiku was Jomo Kenyatta’s third wife.

She is also the sister to Jomo Gecaga the President’s personal assistant and recently made headlines after spending millions on her 40th birthday.
