The mother of Bishop Pius Muiru has been found dead a day after she was reported missing. Cecilia Wangari Mwangi's body was found buried in a shallow grave in her rural home in Murang'a yesterday by detectives investigating the matter.

A watchman guarding the home is now in custody after he allegedly confessed committing the heinous crime and led police to where he had concealed the body.

Also in police custody is a daughter-in-law of the slain woman-the wife of one of Muiru's brother- who was said to be in constant communication with the security guard.

A detective privy to the probe said a mobile phone belonging to the watchman was found in her possession during the initial investigations.

"We want to follow the matter and interrogate all those who will be mentioned," said the detective.

Sources told The Standard that a mobile phone transaction led to the arrest of the watchman believed to have killed and secretly buried the 73 year old woman in Karega village in Kigumo.

The family had reported the disappearance of the mother of seven to the police.

Police exhumed the body and moved it to a mortuary as investigations continue.
