Popular actor Benson ‘Mzee Ojwang’ Wanjau  will be laid to rest today at the Langata cemetery, Nairobi.

Mzee Ojwang passed on two weeks ago after he succumbed to pneumonia at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Kenyans mourned after curtains fell on the life of a man who displayed passion in his acting career overlooking the challenges that came his way.

His Vitimbi colleagues and local artistes met on Monday at Nyayo National Stadium for the final preparation and as comedian Jalang’o put it “To also celebrate the life and times of the father of Kenyan comedy”.

Mzee Ojwang accent and screen antics will greatly be missed by his Vitimbi family, his family and a nation that he tickled with his hilarious lines. His slim figure that carried an iconic character, transitioned from black and white TV to a new age of comedy.

As President Uhuru Kenyatta put it :

National holidays will suffer the loss of a long-standing figure of unstinting reliability in delivery. The entertainment industry will grieve a man of simple but ferocious loyalty to his trade, an inspiration and role model to countless aspiring stars, and a pillar of the industry. Family television will not be the same without the promise of Mzee Ojwang regaling the nation with his antics.”

Daniel Ndambuki aka Churchill put up a post showing the days programme:
