I am convinced that men have surpassed women in the vice of vanity. I came to this conclusion after discovering a perplexing trend.

A few weeks after a guy starts hitting the gym, he starts ‘forgetting’ to put a shirt on.

When he does get around to throwing something on, it is always some muscle shirt that deliberately ends at the upper arms. When did men become this superficial? It is irksome! Don’t even get me started on the number of shirtless selfies being splashed across social media.

I attended a house party recently and there was this group of disastrously clueless guys who just could not keep their shirts on.

It was not a pool party and we were all experiencing the biting cold that has engulfed Nairobi of late. Nonetheless, these douches walked around bare-chested acting like they were God’s gift to mankind, only stopping once in a while to flex their muscles in front of every available reflective surface.

Talk of extreme superiority complex! I appreciate a ripped man just as much as the next person, but for God’s sake, put some clothes on!

I thought ‘freeze and shine’ was an exclusively female phenomena, but, boy was I wrong!

There is nothing that breaks my heart as male attention seekers. We can smell your vanity all the way from Timbuktu!

What are you trying to prove? Sure, tonnes of girls go gaga over nicely toned biceps and triceps, but you don’t have to be a douche to get a girl’s attention.

I’d sooner go for the shy, well-behaved guy at the corner than the loud, buffed egomaniac. Showing off is highly counterproductive. You will get our attention alright, but at the end of the day, no woman wants to be associated with a man who feels the need to show off his body.

It is okay to flaunt your hard-earned muscles, but for crying out loud, be subtle about it. If you want to show off your abs without coming across as a colossal prick, take a girl swimming. That way, she can get an eyeful of those abs without feeling like you are trying too hard.

Showing off your muscles inappropriately is a sign of low self-esteem. It doesn’t matter if you are built like Ryan Reynolds, always dress appropriately for the occasion. Stick to well-fitted T-shirts and be down-to-earth and I guarantee you that you will not encounter any problems when picking up a woman.
