There is nothing quite like a good romantic comedy or chick flick, especially for that lazy hot afternoon and the latest romantic comedy Baggage Claim promises just that — good old fashion mindless entertainment.

In the film, Paula Patton plays a Flight attendant, Montana Moore, who is drawing closer to thirty yet she has never been lucky in love. When she hears that her younger sister — who is barely 25 and still in college — is getting married, the pressure to find her Mr Right is turned up a notch. Determined to get engaged before her youngest sister's wedding, which is in 30 days, Montana enlists the help of her friends, Gail (Jill Scott) and Sam (Adam Brody) in finding a fiancé fast.

Thumbs Up

It is very funny. Also, the film’s lead, Patton gives a great performance especially looking at the script she has to work with. Even though the script is perforated with romantic comedy cliché after Cliché, Paula attacks her role with much gusto, she makes it all look new with her contagious smile. You want to believe her even though you know what she is doing in the name of love is completely ridiculous. Jenifer Lewis gives a brilliant performance as an overbearing mother pressuring her daughter to get married before 30 days elapse.

Thumbs Down

It is not always realistic, so in order to enjoy it you have to switch off your brain a little. It is also predictable, plus it relies too much on outrageous and ridiculous coincidences.

Verdict

It often seems like it is not anchored on reality but it is still thoroughly entertaining none the less!
