A man who works at a graveyard has been arraigned in court for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl.

Patrick Hassan Kwatemba is alleged to have defiled the minor on Jamuhuri Day within Kamukunji area.

Kwatemba has also been charged with committing an indecent act with the minor by touching her privates using his organ.

The court heard that the suspect sneaked into the house, found the minor sleeping alone and carried to a vacant room within the plot, claiming he was her uncle.

The minor told police that the suspect beat her when she attempted to escape. It is alleged that Kwatemba gave the complainant a plate of chips, only for her to fall asleep soon after eating the fries.

It is further alleged that the girl woke up hours later feeling excruciating pain in her private parts. It was then that she screamed for help.

Neighbours who heard her screams alerted the complainant’s mother who had been looking for her.

Kwatemba denied the charges saying: “I’m just an innocent gravedigger. I was accosted by several women that day accusing me of defiling the minor.”

Kwatemba was set free on a Sh300,000 bond and the matter was set to be heard on May 18, 2017.
