Elizabeth Manyala, the Kayole South rep who is awaiting to be awarded a PhD in Leadership and Governance from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) could be Kenya’s most educated MCA.
Manyala who also doubles up as a lecturer at JKUAT says that although she does not feel out of place legislating with members with lower education, she warns that basic education is insufficient.
“Transformative leadership comes with accepting how people are, but this post has become very competitive and will require a solid academic foundation to represent and legislate well,” she says.
Manyala has published academic work on democracy and human rights violation in Africa, as well as on child abuse and neglect in Burundi.
She is currently the treasurer for the Kenya Association of County Governments and also the chairperson of the Women Caucus for all the 47 county assemblies.
