Peter Mureithi

Undercover police whisked away a city doctor from his clinic after he was linked to illegal abortions.

Peter Mureithi , chief doctor and owner of Imenti Medical Centre, his two assistants and patients (mostly women) were on December 9, caught off-guard by a team of police who were forced to wait for close to an hour before getting access to a hidden room where the abortions were reportedly carried out.

The ‘secret’ room could only be accessed by pressing a button under a bed in the doctor’s room located on the first floor of Raiciri Building, along Accra Road.

While the cops were struggling to open the alleged secret room, more than five patients managed to escape from the hospital and melted into the streets.

Mureithi was handed over to the Central OCPD for further investigations.

Mureithi denied the accusations, claiming that, “I have been here for more than 10 years and most of my clients are women.” He added that he has worked in government institutions and that, “The machines in the ‘secret’ room are for examination and circumcision.”

His arrest comes after a middle-aged man reported how his sister allegedly procured a botched abortion at the clinic that nearly cost her life. This case was booked under OB 14/8/12/15.
