Kabochi Gakau (DJ Kaytrixx) studied engineering between 2005-2008.

I joined Moi University when I was 15 years, having skipped some classes in primary school. I was a very bright child.

My roommates coined my stage name, DJ Kaytrixx, from my real name, which is Kabochi. They really enjoyed how I deejayed for them in our cubicle.

I was  the official school DJ and would earn between Sh200 and Sh250 a night at some mabati club in campus.

Over the weekends, I would spend the money with friends at our chill spot which was a waterfall not far from college. We would contribute and buy nyama choma and alcohol. Being the school DJ came with fame which definitely attracted women. Yes, I was a ladies man.

I did not have a favourite lecturer since my mind was always set on deejaying. I felt that they were wasting my time. The whole school process was slowing me down. I wanted to make money.

Luckily  the Pilsner Mfalme DJ contest came up. I did not even have bus fare from campus to Eldoret where the contest was being held. My roommates, who knew how passionate I was about deejaying, contributed Sh500.

I made it to the finals and had to travel to Nairobi where I emerged number four countrywide. I got a job with Code Red and that’s how I dropped out of campus. It has been eight years since, but I’m actually planning on going back to school.
