A police officer based at Mutangale police station in Kiminini Sub-county died by suicide on Friday.

The officer's body was found in his room within the police staff quarters.

According to local OCPD John Onditi, the officer who was on duty failed to report to the office prompting his colleagues to go and search for him.

"He was expected to pick a police vehicle for official duty but when he failed to report to the station, his colleagues went to find out what happened. That is when his lifeless body was discovered in his house," Onditi told the Standard.

Onditi who declined to give the name of the officer said the officer hanged himself and had not left behind any note.

The officer's body was found in his room within the police staff quarters.

The OCPD said the body had been moved to Kiminini Cottage mortuary as they begin investigations to establish why he took his life.

On January 23 this year, the bodies of a police couple were found in a pool of blood in their house at Kiungani police station, barely 2 km away from Mutangale police station.

The officers' constable Abel Ondari(28) and his wife Dorcas Chebet (27) had a one year old child.
