Private Schools in Kisii once again topped the region in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.

Leading schools in the region also produced some of the top candidates in the country.

Elsa Academy produced the top county pupil, Griffin Arama Matundura who scored 434.

Griffin, whose role model is his English teacher, wants to join Alliance High school and later pursue Law at the university.

“It has been through hard work and constant prayers. My parents and teachers have always been committed to me and I attribute my success to them,” he said.

The school also produced top performers in the county, with more than 20 pupils scoring over 400 marks.

At Tracer Preparatory school in Kisii Central Sub County, Morgan Given Anunda joined the top performers list with 422 marks.

Anunda wants to join either Kabarak or Alliance Boys and later pursue Medicine at the university.

“I feel excited having gone through my eight year journey at Tracer. My teachers, school management and parents all played a critical role in my success,” said Anunda.

The school had a mean score of 362 with 25 candidates.

The school headteachers Eric Ochungo and Manager Jackson Ombati said the performance had elevated the school to among the top performing institutions in the county.

At Excell Elementary School in Bobasi Sub-county more than 15 pupils scored between 400 and 419 marks.

The school Director Wilfred Asuga said they had prepared adequately for the examinations. “This is a reflection of hard work and determination,” he said.

Even as private schools took to the streets to celebrate their performance, most public schools remained closed.

Kisii Governor James Ongwae and Women Rep Janet Ongera congratulated the best performing institutions and individuals for maintaining the high academic standards in the region.
