VIDEO: How watchman, three nurses saved life of three-year-old cancer patient

Baby Joseph Karanja often fell sick and his parents visited various hospitals but never got the proper diagnosis.

They then visited AIC Kijabe Hospital and doctors had some devastating news.

The three-year-old boy was diagnosed with Lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes).

He immediately started chemotherapy and was scheduled to undergo eight cycles of treatment.

Karanja successfully underwent four cycles but developed complications before he started the fifth.

He was transferred to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) and doctors tried everything possible to save his life.

According to Dr Sarah Muma, a Paediatric Oncologist at the facility, the boy urgently needed blood and they reached out to nurses, security guards and other members of staff before they finished their shift.

“Three nurses, a clinical officer and a security guard volunteered to donate blood upon hearing about baby Karanja’s situation,” said Dr Muma.

As a result of their selfless act, Karanja’s life was saved and he is getting better by the day as he completes his treatment.
