Julius Malema, leader and founder of the Economic Freedom Fighters party in South Africa, on Wednesday, took a swipe at Kenya over her close ties with the United States.

Speaking during a press conference in his home country, Malema stated that there is no ‘total independence’ in Kenya since the US still controls a huge chunk of what happens here.

“Kenya, of course, is a something different, I don’t think there is a total independence there… America has is got a huge interest in that arrangement of Kenya.

“But everywhere else in the continent we need to start doing away with those things.” said Malema.

His remarks come just two days after President Uhuru Kenyatta met US President Donald Trump in Washington and witnessed investment deals worth USD 238 million signed between the two countries.

President Kenyatta termed his meeting with President Trump a big success, saying it cemented a relationship that was already strong between Kenya and the US.

Malema seemed to be irked by the fact that African countries still depend on the west to prosper as he also hit out at Kenya and Zimbabwe over the white wigs that judges put on saying it resembles the hair of white people.

"Does it mean you can only think when you wear a wig that looks like the hair of white people? You're actually wearing white brains. The reason you think properly is because of that wig according to colonialism," he stated.

“Revolutionists allow that to continue in Zimbabwe, they allow that to continue in Kenya…,” he observed.

Here is the video:

Several publications have often blasted former British colonies where the wigs are still in existence and they have been described as ‘the most glaring symbol of colonial inheritance’.

Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga appeared to have done away with the wigs during his tenure but soon after his exit, current CJ David Maraga wore the wig when he was sworn-in, perhaps why many refer to him as conservative.
