Vocal Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili Owino, better known as Babu Owino is a relieved man, to some extent, after one of his cases in court was withdrawn.

On Thursday, a Nairobi court dropped a case against the MP together with Fanuel Owino, his bodyguard for allegedly assaulting a parking attendant on January 11 at Fortis Towers, Nairobi.

David Wagana, the accuser, asked for the charges to be dropped.

According to the MP who posted a message on his Facebook page, the Jubilee government was responsible for the withdrawal.

The MP recently pleaded in Parliament, asking President Uhuru Kenyatta to ‘remove him from the fire’ since he had ongoing cases in court.

Babu, who saw his election victory nullified by the High Court on grounds that the election wasn’t conducted in a free and fair manner, told the President that he had suffered long enough and didn’t want to be ‘stronger than this’, suggesting that the President intervenes in his political situation.

During Parliamentary proceedings, Babu said, “I would like to tell the president, Uhuru Kenyatta, that he has put Babu Owino in fire, and he has burned and he is strong. I do not want to be stronger than this, let him remove me from the fire.”

He went on to recognise Uhuru Kenyatta as Kenya’s President, urging for support from all politicians to help prolong negotiations between Uhuru and Raila.

Babu also stressed on how important the Uhuru-Raila talks were, saying that more employment opportunities would be provided if the two continued with the dialogue.
